PLDT MyDSL did it again! Conquer the hearts of Davao City's racing fans by sponsoring a Drifting exhibition at the Market!Market Complex in Damosa this City last Sunday, August 16, 2008 as part or the Kadayawan celebration.
The same drifting exhibition was held in the city at almost the same time last year and it also featured Nancy Castiliogne as celebrity guest. This year's drifting exhibit was however more exciting as it was attended by more people and it also caught the attention of celebrity writers from Manila like Dolly Ann Carvajal.
Racing events are a rarity in the city especially with the dismantling of the Speed City to pave the way for high rise condos. While the exhibition was sponsored by PLDT MyDSL, the event was not however exclusive to Smart since Globe and TM were also spotted selling and promoting their stuff just adjacent to the exhibition area.
Davao City is one of the most livable cities in Asia. This is the city of durian, the King of Fruits. This is where the Philippine Eagle soars. Get your daily dose of news, features, and issues that matter straight from Davao City.

PLDT-MyDSL Sponsors Drifting In Davao City
If you were able to watch Fast and the Furious 3 (Tokyo Drift) then you are more or less familiar about what drifting is. Car racing fanatics are surely well-versed about the term. PLDT sponsored a drifting exhibit at Market Basket in Damosa yesterday and those who were there were treated to the first ever drifting show in the city (if not in Mindanao).
So what is drifting? Drifting is a motor sport that makes use of a driving technique of turning the car sideways (more like turning your car in circles to me based on what I've seen yesterday though!). Tehnically, a car is drifting when the car and the same car's wheels are in opposite direction such that the car is turned right and the wheels are pointed to the left.
"Drifting is controlling an uncontrollable car," said Alex, the driver who exhibited his excellent drifting skills yesterday. But no matter hwo you define it, it boils down to one thing: a driver's full control of his car and his wheels.
RWD or rear wheel drives are excellent for drifting (as opposed to the 4x4 exhibitions where the cars have to FWDs). Well, soem say you can use front wheel drive cars for drifting if you are using the E brake.

The drifting shown in the movie Fast and the Furious 3 is however slightly different (although the principle is the same) because the guys there were drifting in closed spiral parking lots and mountains.
Yesterday's drifting exhibit also featured Nancy Castiliogne but it seems the crowd were more excited to see the drifting exhibitions than see Nancy strut her stuff.

Dateline Davao Goes To Dustland And Tuna Country
Merry Christmas everyone! Not doing regular blogging this time of the year since I am still in the land of Dust and the famous Tuna Capital of the Philippines. No thanks to Smart's Plan 799 which is apparently not financially practical and PLDT's WeRoam which is not just available ha!ha!ha!----I do not have 24-hour Internet with me and have content with Netopia's P23 per hour email charge at Gaisano Mall. If I can only bring my DSL connection....
It's good to note there are lots of establishments with wifi connection here in Gensan and one of my favorites is MacGregor Coffee Shop. Sometimes I also use East Asia Royal Hotel's connection but it's more expensive at P100 per hour at the business center and almost the same price at the cafe (plus you have to spend for food). I'm still trying to explore other wifi cafes and restos here though.
