Tun Fun Run kickstarts

General Santos City-The 2013 Tuna Fun Run kickstarted in General Santos City on Sunday, September 7, 2013.

The Run officially started at 4:30 A.M but there was another gunstart at 5:30 A.M. for the other categories.

The Fun Run, which is sponsored by the Notre Dame of Dadiangas “One Damean” Batch 87 as part of their silver jubilee celebration and the Order of Demolay of General Santos, is part of the Tuna Festival held every September of the year.

“We hope to surpass the 1,900 runners last year considering that fun runs are becoming popular these days,” Tuna Run Chairperson Ma. Lourdes L. Libres said. Also acting as Tuna Run chairperson is Bernadette B. Ruivivar.

The Tuna Run 2013 has four categories namely 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K and the 1.6K for parents-and-kids tandems. Among the expected participants are amateurs, professional runners and health buffs. Registration fees are from P200 to P450 with singlet and from Pp50 to P150 without singlet depending on the category (Elementary, College/Adult, Half Marathon and Adult and Child Tandem).

“All runners are expected to be at the Starting Line by 4:30 A.M.,” Libres said. The Fun Run will start and end at the Robinsons Place Gensan Parking Lot.

One Damean President Architect Elwyn Banares said they are determined to make the Tuna Fun Run a yearly event not only to raise funds for a cause but also to promote running as a lifestyle. Two Free Run Clinic lecture and practicum sessions were conducted by the organizers on August 23 to 24 and August 30 to 31. Marathoners Allan C. Delima and Jessie A. Lozada gave the hopeful runners an overview of the benefits of running and some running tricks and tips.

Proceeds of the Tuna Run will go to the Marcellin Foundation, Inc. a halfway home for children in GSC being maintained by the Marist Brothers. The program also provides residential care to the abandoned, neglected, and abused children, and those in conflict with the law. Other beneficiaries are the Notre Dame Holy Rosary Chapel and public schools in Brgy. San Jose, GSC.

I Am Going To Gensan For MBS2!

Gensan or Dustdiangas as I used to call it when I first set foot on this dusty land several decades ago has indeed come a long way. I have many memories of Gensan mostly good, some bad---but they all contributed to making me a better person ---well, hopefully. And while I have always returned home during holidays and vacations, it is only now that I am tracing back my roots hoping that I would be given more reasons to stay for good.

Thanks to the organizers of the MBS2 I now have one more reason to visit Gensan once again for reasons other than family. The holding of the bloggers summit in gensan is very timely considering that the city is experiencing a rebirth of its economic boom. Construction of the Robinsons Mall is underway and there are talks that SM will soon start constructing another mall also. So what's in store for bloggers who will join the MBS2 in Gensan? Lots of tuna and seafood for sure!

Thanks to these folks and companies, MBS2 is finally on!

Dateline Davao Goes To Dustland And Tuna Country

Merry Christmas everyone! Not doing regular blogging this time of the year since I am still in the land of Dust and the famous Tuna Capital of the Philippines. No thanks to Smart's Plan 799 which is apparently not financially practical and PLDT's WeRoam which is not just available ha!ha!ha!----I do not have 24-hour Internet with me and have content with Netopia's P23 per hour email charge at Gaisano Mall. If I can only bring my DSL connection....

It's good to note there are lots of establishments with wifi connection here in Gensan and one of my favorites is MacGregor Coffee Shop. Sometimes I also use East Asia Royal Hotel's connection but it's more expensive at P100 per hour at the business center and almost the same price at the cafe (plus you have to spend for food). I'm still trying to explore other wifi cafes and restos here though.

70% of JIB call center grads now employed

The JIB e-Academy has achieved a 70 percent employment batting average for those who graduated from the 100 hours Call Center Finishing Course offered by the e-Academy in Davao and in General Santos City.

JIB e-Academy’s, which is accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, opened in the city last May 2006 and in General Santos City last October 2006.

“The 100 hours Call Center Finishing Course develops the necessary skills, confidence and abilities needed by an individual to work in a call center,” JIB e-Academy President Joji Ilagan Bian said.

Bian said they have produced a total of 485 graduates, 70 percent of whom have been absorbed and now gainfully employed by call centers in Davao City and in Manila. “We have successfully placed our latest graduates in good paying jobs with international call centers based in Manila,” she added.

“The General Santos Branch has produced 70 graduates and 73% of them or 53 graduates passed the first series of interviews done through teleconferencing,” she said.

About 45 percent of those pre-screened passed the final interview and were given job offers in Davao and Manila call centers while the rest were placed in the manpower pool for future accounts.

Bian said their partner call centers in Manila and Davao were very much impressed with the level of communication skills of the JIB e-Academy graduates. “Our Gen San graduates are hard working, committed and possess positive work values, which is one of the more important metrics that the BPO industry is requiring from their workers,” she said.

The employment statistics of the first batch of graduates from the GSC branch is already a good bench mark for a start. With this performance, she added, there is no doubt that Gen San is already prepared to accept investors in the Call Center Sector.

JIB e-Academy is the first in Mindanao to offer seminars and customized programs in English proficiency and training in the contact center industry. It is equipped with the most modern facilities and state of the art technology for effective learning.

Bian said it is also the only school in Mindanao that has for its partner, its own sister company, the Six Eleven Global Services, a 100% Filipino owned international call center operating in Davao City. Through Six Eleven Global Services, graduates are given access to employment provided they pass the standards.(lovely a. carillo)
